Poured in a pint glass from Rock Island Brewing Co. (RIBCO) on a balmy night in Chicago. I'm not very enthusiastic about this one, though the company and the ambiance were fabulous.
Appearance: Blackish/brown with an absent head.
Aroma: immediately nutty with hints of dark bitter chocolate and licorice.
Taste: Sweet at the tip of the tongue, but finishes uniquely sour (OFF?!). Segues into an almondy flavor that eventually progresses into a like-sourdough taste. Caramel takes center stage but with tobacco and citrus notes that don't quite fit in with the beer.
Overall Impression: A porter in the sense.... But I'm not very thrilled with this beer, especially with the unusual aftertaste of licorice, Cigarette Butts, and tobacco.
72/100
